Enhancing Communication Skills:
- Active Listening: Practice active listening by giving your full attention when your child is speaking. Maintain eye contact, provide verbal and non-verbal cues, and avoid interrupting. Show genuine interest and let them know that you value their thoughts and feelings.
- Empathy and Understanding: Put yourself in your child’s shoes and strive to understand their perspective. Validate their emotions and experiences, even if you may not agree. By acknowledging their feelings, you create a safe space for open communication.
- Clarify and Reflect: Ask open-ended questions to encourage your child to express themselves further. Summarize their thoughts to ensure understanding and show that you are actively engaged in the conversation. This helps clarify any misunderstandings and deepens the connection.
- Teach Conflict Resolution: Teach your children healthy ways to resolve conflicts and express their needs. Encourage them to use “I” statements to express their feelings and to actively listen to others during disagreements. By teaching them effective communication during conflicts, we empower them with important life skills.

- Encourage each family member, including yourself, to take turns telling a story. It could be a personal experience, a fictional tale, or a shared family memory.
- Create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their stories. Listen attentively and provide positive feedback to foster confidence and connection.
